I want to congratulate you for being here. At a time when our youth need you most, you're proving not only that you care very deeply about the future of population, but that you're willing to do something about it. I have a feeling that many of you have been in a similar boat as some of these kids when it comes to basic needs and self-esteem and education. So today, I'd like to offer you a chance to contribute to this 500 bookbag giveaway. Some of our citizens in Southeast Raleigh don't have much money, so Queens Collectively & PrettyFatGrlGang are offering support by organizing a Back to School Bookbag Giveaway aiming to supply 500 children with school supplies. We believe that with you and fellow citizens our efforts could go even farther.
Now, it's easy to take your money and spend it on yourself or whatever our money culture says you should buy and not care so much about changing the world. I hope you don't. It asks too little of yourself and perhaps would leave you unfulfilled. Let me talk you into doing something that you care about.
What's going to happen to those kids if we don't support them in the upcoming school year? Who will fight for them if not us? Who will give them a fair shot if we, their community, don't get involved?
One lesson comes to mind: Foundation.
Service is us. It's who God wants us to be. Servants. How many kids can you support on their way back to school? The real test is not whether you will avoid this opportunity, because you won't. It's whether you subdue yourself into inaction, or whether you commit to it and gain fulfillment from it. You landed here for a reason.
Before you make donation, I think we should think about an empathy deficit--or putting ourselves in someone else's shoes; to see the world from someone else's perspective whom is different from us--the child who's hungry, the laid-off parent, the immigrant woman cleaning your house.
The fact that you are still reading this and participating and supporting means that you have already done this better than most ever will. There's no community service requirement in the real world; nobody's forcing you to care. You have an obligation to yourself. Barack Obama once said, "Our individual salvation depends on collective salvation. And because it's only when you hitch your wagon to something larger than yourself that you will realize your true potential..."
Your support could provide a bookbag with school supplies or a monetary donation. You may also volunteer for the event:
