There are 3.8 million public school teachers. 266,000 are teachers with less than 3 years of experience in the classroom. Of the 266,000, there are 152,000 provisionally licensed, 38,000 with special or emergency waivers, and 76,000 with no certification at all. Do you know what all of these teachers have in common?
There are 2,637 4-year degree granting institutions that have teacher education programs, yet, school districts across the nation are hiring more provisionally licensed teachers who are typically making a career change and they start teaching with less training than a person who was an education major in college.
